Now that the baby is in bed, the dishes are done, the dogs and pig have been out, the laundry has been put away, I have a chance to sit down and jump online while we still have power. We are expecting some big thunderstorms tonight so who knows if the power will go out.
I haven’t posted in awhile as things have been so busy around here. Once I get Ava into bed at night, I’m so exhausted that I just want to go to bed myself. I think I was asleep just after 9pm last night!
Ava is now 10 months old! She is pulling herself up on things and she has stood on her own now on several occasions without hanging onto anything! Not walking yet and that’s A-OK with me. Let’s not rush things shall we? Right now she loves to be carried around which I love too. She’ll be walking soon enough and then I’ll really have to chase after her. She’s so independent too that I can see her not wanting to be carried around anymore. I envision trying to hang onto a kicking and squirming baby and then one of us having a little meltdown. One of us. Maybe her, maybe me….
She’s a blast though, we are having so much fun with her. Now that the weather has finally started to get better these last couple weeks (it’s about time Chicago!), we have been taking her out to new places. We went to the Museum of Science and Industry, to a couple Forest Preserves nearby and to Lake Geneva to the beach!
This was at Dominicks, one of our local grocery stores. Note the cup holders on the cart. AND there is a Starbucks right in the store. LOVE this!
These ones were all at the Museum of Science and Industry in downtown Chicago. She was so tired she fell asleep on Daddy’s shoulder. Adorable.
Ava’s first time at a park and in a baby swing!
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. This hidden gem is only about 35 minutes from our house. We went twice in one week (note the wardrobe change above). Reminds me of back home in Sidney, BC.
Whew! That’s a lot of pictures. That’s what happens when I don’t post for awhile. Well it’s getting late so I should go. (well not really, it’s 9:48pm… but I’m seriously falling asleep here).
I will leave you with this funny little story. Every word of it is true and happened last time we took Ava to the Dr. I remembered it today and we got a good laugh out of it. Perhaps you will too.
We were on our way to get groceries one day and Steve noticed some yellow goop oozing from one of Ava’s eyes as he was strapping her into her carseat. I called the pediatricians office and they said to bring her right in. So off we went.
First I will start by saying that it was dead in the Drs office. They have a really long hallway and lots of exam rooms and we didn’t see one person in the hall while we walked through.
So the funny part. The Dr left the exam room and closed the door behind her. I quickly changed Ava and Steve got her bottle ready as she was suddenly cranky.
I brought her back to my chair and sat with her so I could put her coat on and all that. Here is the conversation between Steve and I:
Me: “Here hold this stuff” as I passed him her blanket, bottle, hat, etc. Her soothie falls out of the blanket onto the floor.
S: “Omg, why did you unclip this from her?? It needs to stay clipped onto her at all times!”
Me: “Cause I thought we were getting her undressed.” (every time we come to the Dr, they make me strip her down to her diaper to weigh her. Except today. Of course.)
S: “She’s mad. Hurry and give her the bottle”
Me: “Just a sec, I have to get her coat on her. ….Why does it stink in here? Did you fart?”
S: “…maybe” laughs
Me: “It stinks so bad!! Can you help me get her into the seat?”
S: “How can I? You gave me all this stuff to hold”
( I take the blanket and bottle from him and he takes the baby)
Me: “Where’s the soothie? Was it on the floor?”
S: “Yes” He hands me the soothie
Me: “I need to clean it now”
S: “Omg seriously? It’s fine, it’s a Dr’s office”
Me: “Exactly” I go to the sink and clean the soothie.
S: “It’s sterile in here”
Me: I laugh. “Are you kidding me?? Do you know how many sick kids come in here??”
S: “You’re just paranoid. Just like how you think the microwave is evil”
Me: “Let’s just go”
We then turn to leave and I notice that the door is not closed all the way like I thought. It was open at least 6 inches. We walk into the hall and right beside the door to the room we were in was a little alcove I hadn’t noticed before with a desk and our nurse was sitting there. (she’s young and really nice – and she is the same nurse we get every time). She was looking at us and had a smile on her face then she says “See you guys later!”
I know she heard every single word we said. :/ oops.
And the real kicker….
About a week later I had an appointment to go see my OB/GYN for a check up. I get there and guess who my nurse is? YEP! That nurse! She came out to get me and was like “Hey! It is you!! I saw your name and wondered if that was you!” Apparently she works at both Dr’s offices. Even though they are not affiliated at all. And they are over 5 miles away from one another.
