Journaling Prompts

Day 4 of 50 Days of Journaling

October 12, 2011 by Jess Leave a Comment

Sorry for the delay in posts but due to computer problems (hard drive is failing), I will not have my computer back for a couple days so there won’t be any photos posted until it’s back up and running again.

How is everyone liking the prompts so far? Do you have any pages to share?

here are today’s prompts:

1. It’s all about Lists: make a ‘top 10’ list of something

For example, you could make a list of books you want to read, places you want to visit, people you saw today, new recipes you want to try, tv shows you’ve watched recently, sources for inspiration….

2. Choose a word. Go grab a dictionary, randomly open it and point to a spot on the page, then use whatever word or phrase you pointed to, to start your page.

EDITED to add photos:

Day 3 of 50 Days of Journaling

October 7, 2011 by Jess 3 Comments

Hope everyone is enjoying the prompts so far. I am having a blast creating my art journal!

1.   10 years ago _________________, and in 10 years I hope to: ____________________

What were you doing 10 years ago? Where were you living, who were you living with? Where were you working? The year was 2001….. then think about what you hope you will be doing 10 years from now….

2. Facing my fears.

We all have them. Think of some times you faced your fears and journal about how you overcame them.

I feel like I have faced a lot of fears in the last 4 years or so. A big one started with scrapbooking. I was terrified of speaking out loud in front of a group of people, I was an incredibly shy person. A big step for me was teaching scrapbooking classes and I learned to love it.

whoops, this pic got a bit blurry. I’ll have to retake at a later time. The bottom part says: “Still be happily married to Steve”, “Be living back in Canada”, “be working my dream job”, “have a couple kids”, and “Be as happy as I am now”

The journaling on this is super hard to read so here it is:

“I remember the first time I held a cockroach. I was pretty terrified. But I did it, then continued to do a bunch more “scary” things such as:

– manned a Golden Eagle and carried her on my arm numerous times a week for months.

– Trained a Hyena to lie still while I vaccinated him

– Wrangled an Anaconda

– Regularly walked an Indian Crested Porcupine (and these can kill Lions!)

– Carried a Beaver when he started to wander too far away on his walks. (cause it’s kinda hard to put a leash on a Beaver)

– Sat with a Baboon while she “groomed” my arm (there were bars between us though)

– Rubbed lotion on a Rhinocerous

– Had my hand inside a Hippos mouth to feel his teeth

– Been in a pen with Reindeer (the most dangerous of the cervidae family)

BUT it took a lot of courage for me recently to hold a Scorpion. After doing all the above and more, was I afraid of a little scorpion? Damn right I was! I finally had to tell Steve just to put it in my hand and I was ok after that.

I feel like I’ve looked fear right in the eye and like a wild animal it stared back at me just daring me to challenge it. So I did, and I won. “

Day 2 of 50 Days of Journaling

October 6, 2011 by Jess Leave a Comment

I’m getting this up late today but better late then never 🙂  Had a busy day today running errands and such and just got home a little while ago. Trying to make dinner while dodging dogs, dog toys and chewies (geez, does the puppy have to take every single toy out of the toy bin everyday?!). Finally a minute to sit down….

Here are the prompts for today:

1. What I do for Me

What do you do to get some “Me” time? Maybe go get a manicure or pedicure, exercise, go for a long walk…. sometimes we all need a little alone time. As much as I love being with my husband and all our pets, I find that even a short time away by myself makes me a happier person.

2. A meaningful quote

Choose a quote from a TV show, movie, book, or even just find one online somewhere. Pick one that has a special meaning to you in some way and journal about the reasons why it is special to you.

Have fun with these!

Enjoy the rest of your evening, you may be as excited as I am for Thursday night TV: Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, and Private Practice – woohoo!!

50 Days of Journaling – Day 1

October 5, 2011 by Jess 3 Comments

Here we go! Day 1 of 50 days of Journaling 🙂

I have chosen to do my journaling in an Art Journal as it is something I’ve never tried making. If you are joining me in this challenge, you can do an art journal, a mini album, a regular scrapbook page, or any type of journal – it’s totally up to you! The journal prompts I’m going to post will simply be to help inspire you and give you some starting off points.

So once again:

For anyone who wants to join in, each time you post a comment here on my blog on any of the journaling posts, you get one ballot into a random draw for a copy of my book: “Outstanding Mini albums”

You can post your answers to the questions if you wish to share, or you can just write them in your own journal. If you wish to share photos of your art journal that is ok too 🙂 I will post any photos on here of your work if you’d like to share, along with a link to your website or blog. Please email me any photos to jess.acs (at) gmail.com

Ok let’s get started!

1. What’s in my purse

Go ahead and dump out your purse to see what treasures you have stored in there! You might be surprised at some things you find in there!

2. Good Things (from last week)

This is a good one to journal about each week. Try to think of little daily pleasures such as having a quiet moment sipping on your favorite latte, or warm towels from the dryer. This is a great recap to remember all those great moments of the week that has just passed by.

Here are my journal pages about the above topics:

I started by painting some gesso onto the page with a foam brush and when that dried I brushed on a few different colors of acrylic paint, slightly watered down. I stamped the letters for “Purse” with foam stamps in acrylic paints then outlined them with a black fine tipped felt pen once dry. I added a couple doodles and the stars at the bottom with watercolor paints.

I started this page out the same as the first with the gesso and then watered down acrylic paints. Then I doodled and wrote all over it and added a lot of watercolor paint. Once it was all dry I spritzed it once with glitter spray.  I’m really enjoying this art journal thing, I love using my paints and getting a little messy 🙂

Year in Review Challenge #7

February 24, 2008 by Jess Leave a Comment

Is there one specific item you just can’t seem to live without right now? Then we want to see a layout about it! It will be fun later to look back and see what was so important to you during Feb 2008. It can be anything at all, except it cannot be a person or anything living. Just an object. Examples: your Computer, your morning cup of coffee, a new shade of lip gloss… anything! You can do it for yourself or if you’d rather, you can do it for your child (what is their “can’t live without it” item right now?), you could even get extra creative and do it for a pet!

For my layout, I did it on my iPhone

Year in Review Challenge #6

February 14, 2008 by Jess Leave a Comment

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!

This week’s challenge is just about that – “What Valentine’s Day means to you.”
For me, Valentine’s Day is the anniversary of my Grandpa’s death so I did my layout about that.
You can do it about what you are planning to do/did this Valentine’s day, about a special Valentine your child made for you, or about how you don’t celebrate at all. Try to think outside the box , also focus on journaling.

If you aren’t into Valentine’s day at all, the alternative challenge for this week is “My Job” – do a layout about what you love about your job – even if you are a stay at home mom – cause that’s a job too!
